HAPPY ANNIVERSARY To Team Ashley Arabian !! (6months)
Here are a few words and a video for you
“August 29, 2012, with Ninon, we decided to create a fan account dedicated to Ashley Arabian, because we love Ashley and we think she is very talented. To celebrate the anniversary of Team Ashley Arabian we decided to show you a video of our meeting during the Festival of Lights in Lyon, this is so exciting!!!. Once upon a time …. Ninon Jenny Ann and Amandine in Lyon. It was December 8, 2012. It was a nice meeting with very different personalities, but so sweet. I was amazed by the city of Lyon, but the most amazing is that during this weekend I had the feeling to know these girls since forever :). “You Me and Charlie” and Ashley Arabian inspired this meeting. Thank you to them” Amandine
“La fête des Lumières took place in Lyon, during the coldest weekend we had this year in December. I’m not kidding, the biting cold was awful, and I’m sure I’d have stayed in my cosy and warm bed instead of going downtown to enjoy the Lights, if we hadn’t organized a special weekend with my friends. On Saturday, Amandine came to Lyon from Toulon and Ann came to Lyon from Sweden for this special event, so we decided to be brave enough to face the icy wind and to wander in the city for hours, looking for luminous wonders. And wonders we did find! La fête des Lumières was truly dazzling this year, we’ve been amazed by the installations and shows we saw. On Sunday, we had kind of a pancake party at my place and this was so much fun. Ann played the guitar and we all sang with her, she taught us a few Swedish words, we ate a lot, for some reasons (maybe we were all tired, maybe we were all a little bit too excited) we all managed to spill pancake batter, or mapple sirup, or Nutella on our clothes or on the floor: this was a happy mess. We finally went to the zoo in Le Parc de la Tête d’Or before going with Amandine to the train station… :-( Sunday night, we had to say goodbye to each other, and to go back our homes, with many happy memories engraved in our hearts!” Ninon
“Who has never dreamed to meet “for real” people from the world of Twitter? Especially Charlies? Well we did during a special weekend: the Festival of Lights in Lyon. Festival which attracts lots of people. Where children of all ages dream thanks to this magic in a few days. Buildings became alive with projections. My favorite is the Cathedral of St. Jean located in the Vieux Lyon. And crowded streets were magical worlds through numerous decorations such as lamps, hearts, flying fish … I was amazed just as every year. I saw Ninon twice a few months ago. Ann had a mad desire to come to Lyon. And Amandine wanted strongly to meet us. This weekend was perfect for an unforgettable meeting with a lot of laugh. These two days glued to each other (almost) were awesome! Love you girls!” Jenny

POWELL’S CITY of BOOKS
Portland Oregon
Did you know that the world’s largest bookstore is Powell’s City of Books located in Portland Oregon and has an area of 7000 square meters? It occupies an entire block and holds over a million books. But to survive as an independent bookshop in a time of change in the industry requires both imagination and flexibility. The Powell’s happens to be in just Portland is perhaps no coincidence.
The bookshop is characterized by the same eco-utopian spirit of hipster series “Portlandia”. The bookstore’s motto “there are never too many books for our customers” are reflected in the crowded shelves that extends from floor to ceiling. To help customers find which section/compartment they are looking for, there are maps available in the area. Those who still get lost or lose their way can get a sticker with the text “I got lost in Powell’s.”
Between 2000 and 2007, over a thousand bookstores got shut down in the U.S. because of the competition from network bookstores, e-books and tablet devices. As an independent bookstore, Powell’s grappling not only with online trade, but also with the competition from major book chains. Everything with higher costs (employees’ health insurance, telephones and computers) also devours large parts of the profit. In order to increase turnover, it has the past few years taken on new strategies such as, selling gadgets (rucksacks, puzzles, games, mugs, t-shirts and annotation blocks). A different approach is an ambitious calendar with 700 author visits a year, writing classes, exhibitions and courses in local architecture and history. Six months ago, they purchased in a so-called “Espresso book machine” that can print out a book in less than ten minutes and has access to six million titles. It is also the ultimate tool for those who want to publish their own book.
Since 2009, it has in general been better for the independent bookstores in the United States.
Powell’s is open from 9-23 every day and is Portland’s largest tourist attraction. On average, the bookstore receives 8,000 visitors daily. It has seven bookstores which are all within Portland area and this is the biggest. It has been around for 40 years.
